Historique

The Travellers Rest Women's Institute was organized on 25 July 1913. It included members from Travellers Rest, Sherbrooke, and New Annan, Prince Edward Island. The name Maple Leaf was chosen by the Institute on September 25, 1913. In 1921 it was decided to divide into two Institutes, with Travellers Rest retaining the name Maple Leaf. In 1926 an annex was built to the community hall which was maintained through the years by the Institute as a club room for the entire community. The Institute has remained active to date, involved in improvement of schools and community, support of education, red cross work, the holding of picnics, teas, and socials, and the contribution to various charities, particulaly those involving children.
