History

Alexander Malcolm, the eigth son of Alexander MacRae and Sarah MacGregor, was born on 21 March 1836. He married Annie Mellish (1844-1931) of Waterside, near Pownal, on 7 December 1865. They had eleven children: Mary Helen Moor (1866-1912), Sarah Elizabeth (1867-1953), Florence (1868-1870), Beatrice (1871-1957), Frederick Beaumont (1872-1946), Cornelia Gertrude (1872-?), Lilly Isabella (1876-1878), William Alexander Malcolm (1878-1938), Daniel Peter (1881-1973), Robert (1882-1961), and Alex Jones (1884-1919).

Frederick, along with his brothers, Robert and Dan, volunteered in the South African War (1889-1902). Frederick was an instructor of machine gunnery in Shorncliffe, England, and a Major in the 82nd Abegweit Light Infantry during World War II.
