Ronald MacDonald, a cousin of Ronald Gregory MacDonald whose shipyard at Maple Hill, Prince Edward Island flourished from the 1840s to the 1870s, was employed to lay keels for vessels built by R. G. MacDonald and others. Ronald MacDonald was the father of Dr. Roderick James MacDonald (1858-1961), a well known Island physician.
