Administrative history
In July 1874, "The Literary Echo" began publication in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. It was primarily a literary journal meant to "amuse and instruct" its readers by printing fiction, poetry, and anecdotes. Some news and vital statistics were recorded as well. John Ross, editor of "Ross's Weekly", published the "Literary Echo" on the first and fifteenth of every month. The 15 September 1874 issue boasted a circulation of 752 in Charlottetown and 1478 in total with readers in both Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
