This subseries records the valuation of property and tax assessment and payment on Prince Edward Island from 1832 to 1974. The information has been collected and recorded in several ways throughout P.E.I. history, i.e. by township or lot, by county and lot, by electoral district, by school district, and finally by real property number. Volumes bear varying titles such as "Land assessment records", "Assessment rolls", "Land tax receipts", "Land tax returns", "Real property tax rolls", etc. With slight variations, all volumes contain similar information including the name of the person assessed, occupation, mailing address, location of property, township #, acreage and description of property, value of property, tax rate, amount of tax, date paid. Poll tax and dog tax is included in some series of volumes. Some volumes are for one year only while others record payments for several years. The early registers from 1832-1876 are for the whole Island and cover several years. They do not contain any information re amounts paid, only who paid them. Miscellaneous volumes include town lots in arrear of assessment, 1810, Land assessment, 1813, and Land tax paid, 1862.
