Bruce DesBrisay Jones was related to the DesBrisay and Stewart families of Prince Edward Island. The DesBrisay families of the Maritime Provinces are lineal descendants of Captain Thomas de La Cour DesBrisay, Royal Irish Artillery, who came to Halifax in 1775 and who acted as Lieutenant-Governor of St. John's Island. He also held the positions of Secretary and Registrar and Clerk of the Executive Council. He and his wife Ellen Landers had a family of ten sons, and six daughters. Their son Theophilus,(the Rev. DesBrisay, first Anglican Rector of Charlottetown) married Margaret, daughter of Hon. Peter Stewart, Chief Justice of P.E.I. Their daughter Mary married the Hon. Charles Stewart, Attorney General of P.E.I., a son of Chief Justice Stewart's. Theophilus DesBrisay had a son Thomas who married Helen McNutt. Their son Theophilus married Dorcas Octavia Stewart, daughter of Liet. Col. Peter DesBrisay Stewart and then their daughter Gertrude Magdalen married Rev. G. W. Hodgson. Thomas and Helen DesBrisay also had children Alice Maude married to Rev. James Simpson, and May Elizabeth.
