Historique
The Hunter River pastoral charge had its beginnings in the Bible Christian faith which established its first mission on Prince Edward Island in 1832 in Greenvale (Princetown Road). Between 1870 and 1875 Charlottetown split from the Bible Christian Union circuit which had included Union Road, Princetown Road, the Winsloes, Rustico Road and Wheatley River. In 1876 the western portion of this circuit incorporating Princetown Road, Wheatley River and Rustico became the Wheatley River circuit under the pastorate of J.G. Yelland. Circa 1879 Hunter River joined this circuit. In 1883 the Bible Christian congregation united with the Methodist Church and the Union Circuit was rearranged to include Wheatley River, Princetown Road, Winsloe North and South, Highfield and Hunter River. Shortly after the United Church was established in 1925 the pastoral charge of Hunter River was created including the congregations of Granville, Winsloe, Breadalbane, Wheatley River and Hampshire as well as Hunter River.
