History

John Strong Hinton was born on 12 September 1866, the son of George Hinton, tanner, of Summerside and Elizabeth A. Dawson. As a young man he was connected with the Tryon Woolen Co. but returned to Summerside as an accountant with R.T. Holman. He remained with this firm until 1915 becoming a member and director of the firm whose duties incuded managing the Park Farm Company Limited, a fox farming enterprise owned by the Holman firm. Following his retirement from Holman's, he opened a bond brokerage in Summerside and remained on the Board of directors of several financial institutions including the Summerside Bank, the Merchants Bank of PEI, and the Eastern Trust Company. Mr. Hinton was married to Ella M. Lea with whom he had two sons, Harry and Richard, and a daughter, Kathleen. He died on 16 March 1920.
