History

Benjamin D. Higgs was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on 17 November 1865, the son of B. Wilson and Amelia Higgs. Following training with the Patriot and Pioneer newspapers, he became the editor of the Guardian newspaper in December 1890. He is credited with turning the newspaper into a daily rather than a weekly and rendering it independent in politics. He died at the age of 31 on 16 November 1896.
