History

In July 1886, a meeting was held in the Alexandra Baptist Church for the purpose of raising funds to build a Baptist Church in Hazelbrook. It took nine years for the congregation to decide on the site for the new church. The decision was made on 12 March 1895, at a meeting of the Baptist conference to have one church at Alexandra, and another church built at Hazelbrook that would fall under the care and oversight of the same ministers. The following year, Hazelbrook decided to become a separate charge from Alexandra and undertook to build a church. The Hazelbrook Baptist Church was officially opened on 27 December 1896 by Reverend D. Price.
