Historique

Francis Longworth Haszard was born on 20 November 1849 to Charles Haszard and Margaret Longworth at the family homestead at Bellevue, Lot 49, Prince Edward Island. Francis married Elizabeth DesBrisay on 12 October 1875 and they had eight children including Frederick, Louis G., Mary, Hilda, Hellen, Evelyn, Ethel, and John.

Haszard attended Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown and later studied law with his uncle John Longworth. Francis was called to the Bar of PEI in 1872. He set up a law practice and for a time was a partner of Louis Henry Davies who served as premier from 1876 to1879. From 1893 to 1900, he served as magistrate and recorder for the City of Charlottetown. Haszard also held the portfolio of Attorney-General until 16 May 1911 when he was appointed Master of Rolls and Judge of the Supreme Court. He remained at the bench until his retirement in 1930.
