History
Joseph Green (1799-1869) of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, was the youngest son of Daniel Green, a United Empire Loyalist who settled on the edge of Bedeque Bay in an area to become known as Green’s Shore and later as Summerside. When Daniel died in 1825, his estate of approximately 1000 acres was divided among his sons. Joseph received land between what is now Duke and Central Streets and raised his family on the original farm. He married Hannah Baker (1801-1850) with whom he had 9 children. After his death in 1869, the land was further divided and willed to his children including his third child Gulielma Maria Green (1833-1921). When Gulielma received the lots in 1873, she was a widow with three children, having married Asher Black in 1861.
