History

Rev. John Goldsmith, son of Thomas Goldsmith and Eleanor Sayle, was born in Douglas, Island of Man, on 26 May 1853. He immigrated to Prince Edward Island in 1875 as a Methodist minister for the New Brunswick and P.E.I. Conference. Over the next 25 years, he served in various charges including Mount Stewart, Margate, Tyne Valley, Bideford, Lot 13, Montague Bridge, Souris, and Alberton as well as charges in New Brunswick. In 1904, Goldsmith moved to Saskatchewan where he lived until his death in 1917. He was married to Pheobe Anna Wright with whom he had three children: Violet Evelyn, Mabel, and Oliver Wright.
