Biographical history
James Ludlow Holman (1827-1877), son of James Holman and Sarah Chadbourne, was a prominent Summerside, Prince Edward Island, merchant and owner of the Island Park Hotel. He also built Ludlow Hall on his property on Water Street, a community gathering place for many years. He married Ada Longmaid in 1863 and the couple had three children: Frank Edwin Holman, Louis Arthur Holman, and Percy Byron Holman. James Ludlow Holman died in 1877.

James Henry Holman (1824-1891), son of Samuel Holman and Mary Ann Grover, was a painter who lived and worked much of his adult life in Saint John, New Brunswick, and Boston, Massachusetts. He was a cousin of James Ludlow Holman (1827-1877) of Summerside, Prince Edward Island.

This single collected item consists of a copy of an 1873 photograph taken by James Ludlow Homan (1827-1877) of an 1868 painting by James Henry Holman (1824-1891). The image depicts Frank Edwin Holman (1864-1927), age 4, son of James Ludlow and Ada (Longmaid) Holman. In the portrait, Frank can be seen leaning against a rock, holding a toy wagon handle and wind instrument. Ludlow Hall, located on Water Street, Summerside, Prince Edward Island, is visible in the background.
