History

The Reverend David Fitzgerald was born in Tralee, Ireland in 1813 and educated at schools in Cloumel, Limerick, and at Trinity College, Dublin. In 1845 he was ordained a deacon at Tuam and in 1846 a priest. He and his wife, Charity Christina Purdon, came to Prince Edward Island in 1847, where he acted as assistant minister to Rev. Dr. Jenkins, then rector of St. Paul's Church in Charlottetown. He was appointed rector of the parish in 1857 and served without interruption for 38 years. He died in Charlottetown Royalty in 1894.
