Dunstaffnage Women's Institute

Biographical history

The Dunstaffnage Women's Institute was organised in 1931 and operated until 1940. On 27 December 1945 it was reorganised under the name of District's Best Friend. Districts included in the Institute include Dunstaffnage, Frenchfort, Bedford and Suffolk, Prince Edward Island. In 1986 the Institute purchased the Dunstaffnage School property to use as a meeting hall for the institute and other community organization as well as to serve as a kindergarten.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of minutes of meetings the Dunstaffnage Women's Institute from 4 April 1956 to 2 June 1983 including annual reports, roll call and financial statements. Also included are a history of the Dunstaffnage School, 1851-1983, a deed for the transfer of the school and property to the Institute as well as an application for a grant in lieu of taxes for the property in 1986.
