History

The Dunk River Farmers' Institute was one of twenty institutes formed in Prince Edward Island in 1901 in accordance with the provisions of the "Act for the Encouragement of Agriculture". The Farmers' Institutes numbered 33 in all comprising as nearly as possible two townships in each. The organization was set up in 1901 by provincial officials and two institute workers supplied by the Dominion Department of Agriculture. The institutes held meetings periodically to promote agricultural education, improved methods of stock breeding, general farming and co-operative ventures.
