Historique

Hugh MacLean Davison was born at St. Peter's Bay, Prince Edward Island on 21 January 1861, son of Henry and Elizabeth Davison. In 1884, he married Minnie Beatrice Douse with whom he had children Hazel Davison MacNutt and Lyman Hugh Davison. H.M. Davison worked as a clerk for the City of Charlottetown from 1890 to 1903, and later as a fire insurance broker, heading his firm "H.M. Davison Ltd.". Davison was involved with the Prince Edward Island militia for many years. When the Charlottetown Engineer Company was organized in the summer of 1878, H.M. Davison was appointed sergeant. The Company's first duty was the guard of honour for the 1879 Charlottetown visit of the Marquis of Lorne, Governor General of Canada. Davison later commanded the Fourth Regiment Canadian Garrison Artilllery. In 1902, Major Davison travelled to England in charge of the P.E.I. Coronation contingent for the Coronation Procession of King Edward VII. By 1906, Davison was on the regimental staff of the Prince Edward Island Militia as commanding Lieutenant Colonel. Davison retired from military service in 1912. Davison was a member of the Oddfellows, Masons, and Sons of England. In 1917, Davison again travelled to England as one of the officials in connection with the soldiers' vote during war time election. Col. H.M. Davison died in Charlottetown on 11 September 1940.
