Scope and content

The series contains administrative records of the Crapaud congregation as well as minutes, etc. of various church groups. They have been arranged as follows:

Subseries 1: Congregational records [Reel 5]
Subseries 2: Sunday School records [Reel 5]
Subseries 3: Young People's groups [Reel 5]
Subseries 4: Women's groups [Reels 5, 7]

The Crapaud United Church was built in 1860 in Westmoreland. At this time it formed part of the Tryon/Bedeque Circuit of the Methodist Church. In 1873 when Tryon was made a separate circuit, Crapaud became part of this circuit. In 1877 the church was moved to Crapaud village. With church union in 1925, Crapaud and Tryon formed the Tryon pastoral charge of the United Church of Canada until 1968 when the Hampton Charge amalgamated with Tryon to become the Tryon/Hampton United Church pastoral charge. In 1969 the Crapaud congregation agreed that their church be phased out for regular services and that they would join with Tryon for worship.

Arrangement

Because of their time frame the records in this series could equally as well have been placed in Series 4 and 6 but as they are the records of the Tryon United Church rather than the pastoral charge it seemed more appropriate to keep them together and maintain the chronological continuity
