History

The Co-operative Union was established in December 1944 in order to promote Co-operative Union movement on Prince Edward Island. Their goals, as stated in the 1944 constitution and by-laws, are to increase the number of co-operative associations and organizations, promote co-operative education, co- ordinate activities on a province wide basis, and to act as a liason/lobby group to government.

Membership in the Co-operative Union is comprised of any co-operative association organized and operating in compliance with the P.E.I. Co-operative Association Act, or the Credit Union League. It is managed by an elected Board of Directors and Officers. The Co-operative Union of P.E.I. is affiliated with the Co- operative Union of Canada.
