Historique

William Ewen Clark (1814-1881) was born in Darnley, Prince Edward Island. He farmed until 1854 when he was appointed Collector of Customs and Excise in Charlottetown, a position he held until 1859. In that year he relocated to Morell where he was engaged in the manufacture of flour and lumber. Clark represented the third electoral district of Prince County in the Legislative Assembly from 1846 to 1858 and was elected for the district of St. Peter's In 1867. He resigned immediately to again accept the position of Collector of Customs and Excise. In 1872 he moved to Mount Stewart where he built a hotel. He was a magistrate for over 30 years. Clark was married to Sarah Jewel Hooper of Bedeque. They had five children.
