History
The Charles Dalton Sanatorium was built in North Wiltshire, Prince Edward Island between 1913 and 1916 for the treatment of tuberculosis patients. The cost was almost totally funded by philanthropist Charles Dalton although administration of the hospital was transferred to the provinical government at the time of its opening. It operated for several years as a federal military hospital for soldiers returning from the World War I. During this period, several expansions were made. After the war however, the hospital was abandoned by both federal and provincial governments and returned to Charles Dalton.
