History
George Carter was born on 18 February 1856 to James and Elizabeth (Seller) Carter of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. On 13 March 1883 he married Sarah Jane Howard (1858-1913) daughter of John Hopps and Elizabeth (Balderson) Howard of Winsloe. For some years following 1879, he operated a seed and grocery store on Queen Square in Charlottetown. The family moved to Richmond Hill in New York City in 1905.
