History

Charles Hibbert Black was born 20 May 1872 in Pugwash, N.S. On 2 January 1906 he married Jean Elizabeth Moore, daughter of Frederick Strong Moore of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. In 1911 he purchased a china, crockery, and glass business on Grafton Street from A. N. McKay which became known as Black & Co. The premises had been previously occupied by Colwill's store. He operated this business for a couple of decades before becoming an insurance agent in the late 1920s. Both Charles Hibbert Black and his son Charles Frederick Black (b.6 December 1907) shared an abiding interest in the history of Charlottetown and Prince Edward Island. Charles Frederick combined this interest with a hobby in philately. C. H. Black died on 7 December 1959.
