The Augustine Cove Women’s Institute was organized on 27 October 1939 by Mary G. MacDonald in Augustine Cove, Prince Edward Island. Members of the first executive included Mrs. Kenneth Cameron (President), Mrs. Harry MacFarlane (Vice President), Mrs. Harold Howatt (Secretary), Miss Kathleen MacFarlane (Director), Miss Doris Webster (Director), Mrs. Arthur Newson (Director), Miss Geraldine Darley (Auditor) and Mrs. Ed. MacFadyen (Auditor). Meetings were held on the first Wednesday of the month, and the first meeting was at the home of Mrs. Frank MacFarlane. The fundraising events of the Women’s Institute supported the school, community and other organizations such as the Red Cross, T. B. League, and March of Dimes.
