The subseries consists of the personal and business papers of Archibald John Macdonald for the period 1855 to 1917. The series includes correspondence, certificates, and other papers regarding various public office appointments and positions (including Collector of Customs, Justice of the Peace, Board of Health, U. S. Consulate, and Executive Council) and correspondence to and from family members regarding personal and business activities. Macdonald’s original manuscript memoir (1909) is also included, as well typed transcriptions and a copy of the transcript published under the title "More than a Lifetime of Memories: Diary of Archibald John Macdonald (1833-1917)". The series also contains a draft of Archibald J.'s obituary.
