Historique
Alexander Anderson, son of Alexander Anderson and Margaret Imray, was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, on 30 September 1836. He was educated at Moray House in Edinburgh and the University of Edinburgh, concentrating in mathematics and natural philosophy. In the spring of 1862 he was offered the second professorship at Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He immigrated in November of that year. In 1868 he was appointed principal of the institution, a position he held until his retirement in 1901. He was married to Catherine Stewart Robertson with whom he had at least four children.
