PARO R.G. 44, Series 1, Item 2141
Confederation Centre Public Library, ca. 1962

The Memorial to the Fathers of Confederation, the Confederation Centre of the Arts, was built "to inspire appreciation, understanding and enjoyment of Canada's diverse cultural heritage." Now celebrating its 40th year, the Confederation Centre houses a theatre, art gallery, public library, and reception and meeting rooms. Architect Dimitri Dimakopoulos (1929-1995) of Affleck, Desbarats, Dimakopoulos, Lebensold and Sise of Montreal won the competition over 47 design submissions. Some modifications to the architect's sketch of the Library interior were made prior to completion.
