PARO Acc. 2755/36
Seaside Hotel, Rustico Beach (From: Canadian Illustrated News, August 24, 1878)

Built approximately 1871, this hotel was originally known as the Ocean House. A two-storey structure with 21 bedrooms, dining room, bowling alley and ice-house, this establishment operated as a summer resort only, unlike some other hotels in the area which were year round residences. By 1875 the hotel was owned by John Newson, a Charlottetown cabinet maker and merchant who renamed it the Seaside Hotel. Overnight rates ranged from $2.00 to $2.50 per day in 1878. The hotel closed in August 1902 and was destroyed by fire a few years later.
