Pleasant View Hotel, Hampton, August 1897 (1 of 2)
 
The Pleasant View Hotel in Hampton was operated by Matthew Smith, a farmer, school trustee, Sunday school superintendent, Methodist church steward, member of the Legislative Assembly and Speaker of the House of Assembly. Smith was born in Crapaud to English immigrant parents. The hotel had a large clientele from the U.S. and Ontario. In 1906, the hotel could accommodate up to 50 guests. The cost of accommodation -- $1.00 per day or $5.00 per week.
