Live Pelt Judging, ca. 1966

Judging of live fox pelts occurred at many fox shows. There were seven classes: black or extra dark, dark silver, dark medium silver, medium silver, pale silver, extra silver, and groups or herds. The first six classes were subdivided into males, females, and pups. The last class had two sections: Senior Herd with one adult male and four females and Junior Herd with one male and three females. Judges were well known experts from within the industry and specialists in the appraisal of fine furs and animals. Attendants looked after the foxes as owners were not permitted to see the judging.
