French explorer Jacques Cartier, the first European to reach the shores of PEI in 1534.

Original Charlottetown Camera Club 1967 description:
"Excerpt from Jacques Cartier's Diary

'1er Juillet 1534: Tout Ycelle Terre est Basse et onyr, la Plus Belle qui soit possible de voir et plaine de beaux arbres et praires.'
'1st July 1534: All the said land is low and plaine [sic] and fairest that may possibly be seen, full of goodly meadows and trees.'

In 1867, the year Canada was born, Jacques Cartier's diary was found in the imperial library in Paris."
