Original Charlottetown Camera Club 1967 description:
"Edward Whelan was born in Ireland in 1824. In 1842 he emigrated to P.E.I. to edit a paper published by the Reformers. This journal of reform called the 'Examiner' was edited and published by him for 25 years. He was a brilliant journalist as well as an eloquent public speaker. He was elected as a Member of the House of Assembly in 1846 and represented Second Kings until his death in 1847. He was a Father of Confederation and published one of the few accounts of the Confederation Conferences entitled 'The Union of the Provinces.' He is one of the most brilliant and distinguished Fathers of Confederation.”
