Original Charlottetown Camera Club 1967 description:
"Edward Whelan was born in Ireland in 1824. In 1842 he emigrated to P.E.I. to edit a paper published by the Reformers. This journal of reform called the 'Examiner' was edited and published by him for 25 years. He was a brilliant journalist as well as an eloquent public speaker. He was elected as a Member of the House of Assembly in 1846 and represented Second Kings until his death in 1847. He was a Father of Confederation and published one of the few accounts of the Confederation Conferences entitled 'The Union of the Provinces.'
