Many Islanders still have fond memories of first listening to Don Messer and His Islanders on the radio and then later watching the band on CBC Television.

Original Charlottetown Camera Club 1967 description:
"Don Messer. Although not native to our shores, he has made this part of the world famous through the Old Time Music of the 'Islanders'. Born in Tweedside, N.B., he took music at an early age, and in 1930, his music could be heard over CFBO St. John. Eventually he came to CFCY, and his 'Don Messer and his Islanders' became famous coast to coast through CBC broadcast's [sic]. Don Messer is a composer through notes and his works are obtainable through records. The picture was taken in 1939, shortly after he appeared on CBC."
