Owen Connolly

Photograph of painting of Owen Connolly (1820-1887). The educational endowment mentioned in the caption below is still available to Island students in 2017.

Original Charlottetown Camera Club 1967 description:
"The story of Owen Connolly is a story of unbridled success. This outstanding Irish immigrant to Prince Edward Island was a veritable leader among his people. He was an astute man of business and deeply interested in affairs of both Church and State. He operated one of the largest wholesale and retail stores in Charlottetown for many years. At his death he left his sizable estate for the education of Irish students. Thousands of young men still profit from the generosity of this philanthropist."
