This article recounts the recent opening of the library in O'Leary on Thursday, March 1st, 1934. Attending the grand opening was Nora Bateson – Director of the Carnegie Library Demonstration in Prince Edward Island. Mr. Nesry Shelfoon was appointed as the first librarian for O’Leary. He would remain in this position until 1941. The original library was housed in O'Leary’s former Orange Hall.
