In the late 1800’s, there was great interest in seafaring around Atlantic Canada and America. Steamships were cheap to purchase in Canada, and this made trade and travel with other parts of North America, as well as the rest of the world, easier. Steamship passenger travel was popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries around P.E.I. Besides Boston, voyages to more exotic places such as the United Kingdom and Bermuda were also encouraged.
