Old Home Week was only one attraction that would have appealed to tourists coming to Prince Edward Island. A few other examples of tourist attractions were Dalvay-by-the-Sea and the Point Pleasant Hotel in Stanhope, two areas which would later become part of the P.E.I. National Park. After the publication of Anne of Green Gables in 1908, L.M. Montgomery quickly gained fame as an author, and her works began attracting tourists to P.E.I as well. Steamships such as the “S.S Halifax” docked in Charlottetown, which was well known across the nation as the “Birthplace of Confederation”. The downtown area of the city also housed the Charlottetown Hotel, which was a popular tourist accommodation.
