Henry Cundall, ca. 186?

Portrait of surveyor, land and business agent and amateur photographer Henry Cundall (1833-1916). With the arrival of his "photographic apparatus" in 1859, Cundall began experimenting immediately. His diaries record practicing photography on numerous occasions as well as document his many subjects. While traveling in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and overseas in England and Scotland, Cundall would often seek out photographers' studios, view exhibitions, and purchase photographic and other supplies for another hobby, exhibiting dissolving views, a type of magic lantern show.
