The Victoria Park roadway from Kent Street to Fort Edward was officially opened in 1897 and in 1899 the road was extended from Fort Edward to Brighton Road. Lighting on the roadway was in place in 1914 and since 1918 the driveway was opened for automobile traffic. Problems with mud in the spring precipitated the need for gravel which was laid in 1925.
