| The railway was a dangerous place. Islanders fell under the rails and between cars. They were hit at level crossings. Locomotives, with live steam and fireboxes were dangerous places to work. The narrow gauge track which could suffer from cracked rails and frost heaves on the line saw many derailments. In spite of demolishing the wooden cab this wreck claimed no lives but in an incident three years earlier near this location the engineer was scalded to death. | | Next>>> |
