Dr. Alexander Anderson, ca. 1900

Dr. Alexander Anderson was the first Principal/President of Prince of Wales College after the amalgamation in 1879. Anderson trained students studying for a Third Class Teaching license, which was the highest teaching degree offered at Prince of Wales College. Anderson was instrumental in the building of a new Prince of Wales College in 1900, replacing the old Central Academy building which was in disrepair and extremely overcrowded. Many changes to the curriculum were instituted under Anderson, particularly in the sciences. Alexander Anderson remained with Prince of Wales College until 1902.
