1980 Forest Inventory Mapping

The 1980/82 Forest Biomass inventory was carried out during the period 1980-1982. The mapping was done based on aerial photography taken at a scale of 1/10,000 during the summer of 1980. Both black and white and false colour infrared imagery were used. The photo interpretation and mapping was carried out by Dendron Resources of Ottawa.

The stand delineation was done on the black and white photographs and the attributes were added to the photographs. The interpreted stand/polygon boundaries were transferred to mylar and the polygon attributes added. A database was created using primarily the photo interpretation. Other location information was added such as county, forest management district, etc.

The base maps used for this project were created from the 1970 orthophoto maps as used by property assessment. These maps were photographically reduced from the 1/5,000 to 1/10,000 and assembled to produce 1/10,000 scale maps with a three by six minute map window. (This map window was also used in the 1990 inventory and when the new base maps were created by L.R.I.S. based on 1985 and 1988 imagery.)
